About Johnny
Johnny Patience is an American Fine Art photographer based in Portland, Maine. Born and raised in Europe, his love for photography has taken him to many countries around the world. In documenting people and places, Johnny captures moments with emotional authenticity, giving his photography a style that is both original and easily recognizable. The foundation of Johnny’s work is a unique combination of fine art, travel, and street photography. He shoots film exclusively and works with a minimalist approach to gear: one camera, one lens, and natural light.
His first book, "Arriving Home – A Love Story," was published in 2016 and is currently sold out. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of DownEast Books, a curated selection of his images was included in "Maine – Life in a Day" in 2017. Maine The Way Magazine's Spring 2018 Issue features an 18-page retrospective about the project, accompanied by Johnny’s writings about his feelings, thoughts, and experiences along the way.
As an educator, he was featured in the July/August 2018 issue of Click Magazine, running a special on film photography. Johnny gives a quick and simple introduction to shooting film and shares many of his tips and tricks with the readership to help achieve the best possible results and a high level of consistency in Fine Art Photography. Johnny teaches pro bono film photography workshops for high school students in Maine. He shares his expertise and passion with a new generation of photographers, fostering a deep appreciation for the art and technique of film photography among youth.
A regular contributor to various magazines, Johnny is currently working on his second book. His photographs have been awarded by the IPA and have been featured both online and in print.
